Project Overview:
Kindle Marker transforms digital reading into a creative, social experience. It letting users highlight, organize, and share powerful book quotes effortlessly. As a designer, I believe reading shouldn’t just be a solo activity; it should spark conversation and connection. While Kindle changed how we read, it still feels isolated. Kindle Marker is my way of turning inspiration into interaction, bringing readers together through the words that move them.
Audience Interview
Renjie, a 27-year-old freelance designer based in San Francisco, shared in a virtual interview on February 6, 2024, that he needs a way to quickly capture and reference insights without disrupting his workflow. While he values platforms like Kindle, he feels they lack the social functionality needed for deeper engagement. He also noted that although social media is great for connection, it feels disconnected from the act of reading itself.

Measurable Outcome
Quickly and conveniently add sentences. Organize sentences in your own notebook. Share your own sentences and generated posts. Find book friends who share common interests.
Usability Testing:
Conducted through a series of tasks designed to assess ease of use, navigation, and the annotation and sharing process.
Key Findings:
Users easily navigated through the annotation and sharing tasks, but some felt that the social sharing process could be more intuitive.
Customization features (e.g., highlight colors) received positive feedback, but some testers suggested additional personalization options.
How I Solved Problem
Testing revealed key areas to improve, so I streamlined social sharing with bold CTAs and auto-generated posters for instant posting. I refined the search flow, added dark wallpapers for a richer interface, and kept the gray reading background for clarity. These upgrades make Kindle Marker sharper, faster, and more engaging.
Second Component
I designed an interactive, dynamic poster to showcase Kindle Marker. Users can scan the QR code to explore its features instantly. The poster highlights the intuitive interface, showing how to select and annotate text with a marker pen. This serves as both an advertisement and an interactive promotion, making the experience engaging and seamless.
Conclusion
To make Kindle Marker a seamless, social reading tool, I identified key user pain points limited sharing, fragmented annotation tools, and lack of engagement. Through research, competitive analysis, and usability testing. By integrating smooth highlighting, smart search, and instant social sharing, Kindle Marker transforms digital reading into an interactive experience that connects personal insight with community conversation.
